How to Download and Read E-books on your android phone for free

Over the years, I have read a LOT of books. The journey that started from William Golding’s Lord of the Flies is still going on and I ain’t stoppin anytime soon. Most of those books however, I have read on e-book format in my cellphone since I was a student and couldn’t afford to buy all those books with limited pocket money and an insatiable appetite for books. So, I downloaded those books online from different sites for free and read them. But getting them was not easy! After a lot of searching and hit and trial, I found a site and an app that have been my best friends ever since.
So, without much ado, Lets get to the downloading and reading part!
Step 1
Download an E-book Reader. Of all the books I have read, 90% of them I read on Aldiko Book Reader which is a decent enough reader with a great looking interface. But now I use Moon+ Reader (I have no idea why they put that + in the name). It may not look as stylish and elegant as Aldiko but it has features like: highlight and copying text which the free version of Aldiko lacks. So, my recommendation is Moon+ Reader. So, download any one of these and let’s get started!
Step 2
Get a .epub file of the book from sites or Friends. Anything will work. .EPUB is a very popular e-book format like .pdf or .txt. Copy it in any location inside your phone. Say Downloads folder and we can get on from there.
Step 3
Open Aldiko or Moon+ Reader.
For Aldiko:
This is the homescreen of the app.

Slide from left to right.Go to “Files”.
Aldiko Files
Select the file from the location you copied. Select “Import”. Done!

For Moon+ Reader:
This is the homescreen of Moon+ Reader. Select “My files”.

Go to the location and select the file you want to import.

As soon as you select the .epub file, will open and will be automatically imported to your library. Go back to the library and you will find it on the top smiling at you waiting to be read.
Those were the easy steps for those who already have the .epub file. Now the following are the steps to actually download them. My favorite site is www.mobile9.com. You can find a Lot of popular e-books and a million other things in the site. But what you will find there most are erotic novels and cheap ripoffs of popular thrillers. So anyways, off we go for the prize.
Step 1:
Go to mobile9.com.
Home Page Mobile9
Step 2:
Select your phone. Just type in your phone or tablet name. They will give you a drop down menu of the different models with nice little pictures of them.
Select Phone
Excellent! I will choose Samsung Galaxy A as an example. A page for searching stuff for your phone specifically will come on and you can search anything at all in there. The list of categories of stuff available for your mobile set is in the left under the picture of your phone.

Step 3:
Select “E-books”. You will be asked to verify if you are a human or a robot or an alien.
Mobile9 Robot or Alien
I really wanted to prove that I am an alien but didn’t know how. If I entered the captcha wrong, how would they figure out if I was an alien, a bot or just an idiot! So, anyways, enter the captcha right and click submit and you will be a human. Don’t worry if the captcha text is difficult to read. Hit that little refresh icon and you will get an alternative text.
Step 4:
There you have it, a page filled most of the times with chick-lits or erotica.
Main Ebooks Page Mobile9
Ignore them. Or not! So anyways, you want specific book so on the right side in the search area, type its name correctly, remember no spelling errors! And hit enter. You won’t get the book you are searching for most of the time. Unless it is extremely popular and has a great fan base and one of these fans happens to be a member of mobile9 users. But that’s okay! You can get those books in one website or the other. Or just ask the members to mail them in one of the book readers club on FB or any other social networking sites. Or just buy one for a change! But we want free books right. So let’s get to the ones which you can actually find in the site. Search instead with the Author’s name. You will get a list of their books, go through them and download one. Don’t give up on page 1. Their search system is crap! Not everyone can compete with google right? Anyways, go through all the pages. Maybe not all the pages but search at least up to page 5. Did you find it? Great! I will go with The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini for now. So let’s say I search for the The Kite Runner.

There it is!
Step 5
Click on the book cover and you will get a page with some description and details of the book.

There you go, there is the download button. But wait, let’s check if it actually is epub file or not. I hate reading pdfs.
Step 6
Click on “Details” below the book description. Is the file format epub?

Check! So what are we waiting for? Click on the “Download” button already up there on the right!
Step 7
Click on “Save File” and the download will start in 30 seconds. You can go take a leak or post a comment on FB. Go on! I know you want to.

Step 8
After it is downloaded, copy it to your phone via USB cord. And import it on Aldiko Or Moon+ Reader or any other reader that supports .epub file as I suggested at the beginning of the article and enjoy!
If you guys don’t find any book there, feel free to leave a comment below with your email id. I will send it to you or get some of my good friends at bOOkahOlics to do it. They are a good bunch. Go join the group!
